Fresh off celebrating its 10-year anniversary, the Brazilian Packaging Association packaging and design awards receives a name change. The new name — o Prêmio ABRE da Embalagem Brasileira — reflects the growing scope and relevance of the contest and the association in Brazil. The association itself was established in 1967 and continues to encourage Brazil’s package design community to invest in new projects, with incentives such as this contest.

Sweets and Dessert Packaging
Halls XS – Slider Box
Winner: Kraft Foods
Design by: Believe Branding
Converter: Brasilgrafica
End user: Kraft Foods
The package offers both a different presentation for candies in this market and convenience features valued by consumers. The structure is designed for easy opening, and the graphic design uses metallic colors to impart a premium look. Consumers reacted positively to both the look and the functionality of the package, resulting in an exponential increase in sales for Kraft Foods.

Savory Food Packaging
Dama Hojiblanca
Winner: Sandeleh Alimentos
Design by: Indústria da Imagem Design
Converter: Sinel System / Grupo Saint-Gobain
End user: Sandeleh Alimentos
The package’s novel shape is draped by a full-body shrink sleeve. The sleeve, printed in six colors plus gold, highlights the olive green glass bottle’s striking angles.

Non-Alcoholic Beverage Packaging
Lata 50 Anos de Brasília
Winner: DIA Comunicação
Design by: DIA Comunicação
Converter: Rexam Beverage
End user: Coca-Cola
Coca-Cola celebrates Brasilia with this limited edition package. An intricately printed design commemorates the 50 years that Brasilia has served as capital of Brazil. White is used to highlight the naturally metallic color of the cans, and the gold print brings prestige to images of Brasilia’s monuments. Coca-Cola recorded strong sales as a result of the package design.

Cosmetics and Personal Care Packaging
Nova linha Ekos Cabelos
Winner: Natura
Design by: Tátil Design de Idéias
Converters: Plastek do Brasil / Prakolar / Igaratiba / Aptar / Abplast
End user: Natura
These packages demonstrate that sustainable packaging can be sophisticated. Bottles are made from 50% recycled PET, and the paperboard carton contains 40% post-consumer recycled fiber. The resulting family of hair care product packages also won ABRE awards in the following categories: Packaging for Family of Products; Sustainable Packaging; Structural Design and Functionality; and Marketing and Communication Strategy.
