EDV Packaging Moves One Step Forward in Sustainable Packages

(June 2010) posted on Tue Jun 22, 2010

The French company Charles Faraud has chosen EDV Packaging’s barrier sheets as the most appropriate base material to protect their fruit cups and dessert range of products. This new range was launched onto the market at the beginning of April this year, under the Les desserts d’Alice Faraud, Écopotes 1.0 brand.

Today, four flavors can be found on the shelves: apple, pear, apple-strawberry, and apple-apricot. From the ground to the consumer’s table, the production process of this new fruit desserts range meets the most demanding sustainability standards. Among other considerations, the fruit has been chosen from near local agricultural lands, thus limiting the distance of transport. The marketing item has also been reduced, which translates into a reduction of the final price; and, above all, any unnecessary packaging has been banished to move to EDV Packaging’s reinforced more sustainable plastic base material.

EDV Packaging coextrudes the PS/EVOH/PE multilayer material in its production plant in Llinars del Vallès, Barcelona, Spain. The material is available in a natural finish. The EVOH layer provides excellent protection to oxygen, gases, and aromas and allows the product to be preserved at chilled temperatures with an excellent shelf life. Thanks to the resistant five-layer structure, ample barrier to moisture and to UV light is totally guaranteed thus preventing decay and preserving taste up to 12 months after the packaging date. The formula can withstand thermal treatments such as hot filling and the PE layer offers hermetic sealing and easy opening with a peel off aluminum foil.

Each cup holds a 100-gram portion of the fruit product and they are sold in six-unit multipacks with no other superfluous packaging. The characteristics of the plastic material make the cup 100% recyclable and its low weight and high resistance to breakage make it a safe and efficient package. The final presentation is eye-catching from any side of the supermarket shelves and offers an ideal alternative to consumers looking for healthy high-quality products that are environmentally friendly.
