International Green Awards named Ecologic Brand’s eco.bottle winner of its Best Green 4Rs award. The bag-in-bottle concept was recognized for its innovations in efforts to reduce, reuse, recycle, and recover materials.

Each eco.bottle starts with a molded paper, compostable shell made from 100% recycled materials (70% recycled cardboard boxes and 30% old newspapers). This shell, which is certified by Soil Control Labs to be compostable per ASTM 6868 standards, is then paired with a thin fully recyclable interior pouch. This plastic pouch enables eco-minded package designers to specify the eco.bottle for wet products that typically would be transported using rigid plastic containers. Eco.bottle’s thin interior liner uses up to 75% less plastic than rigid plastic containers.

The International Green Awards, a Royal Society of Arts accredited environmental awards program, specifically cited the Ecologic Brands eco.bottle as a best innovation in efforts to reduce, reuse, recycle, and recover material. The award was part of the 6th International Green Awards for Creativity in Sustainability.

The package has received plenty of buzz recently not only for the award but also for Ecologic’s partnership with Berlin Packaging. In October, Berlin Packaging became a primary stocking supplier for the eco.bottle. Starting 2012, Berlin Packaging will start distributing the eco.bottle in a 50-oz. size with a detergent-style dosing cap or twist cap.
