Best of Show
'Forever' Two-Sided Stamp Booklet
For: U.S. Postal Service; By: Avery Dennison Security Printing
For this postage, a Dai Nippon Kiko gravure press printed engravings by WRE Color Tech in 10 colors of Siegwerk C Type solvent-based ink on Fasson twosided stamp stock. Exacting registration requirements—color to color on each side, as well as front to back—made the job extremely difficult to print. To deter counterfeiting, the engravings were printed at 300 lpi to 400 lpi. Close examination of the booklet reveals another anti-counterfeiting step: the word "Forever" is micro-printed on each stamp.

Cartons, Paperboard, Top Coated
Pall Mall Premium Tobacco
By: Alcan Packaging, Atlanta
A Bobst press printed five colors of Sun Chemical ink on SBS board. The fine print is extremely sharp with no stray dots, as are the blue images out of the white areas. The small embossing on the front of the package coupled with the scoring on the side yielded a package with rounded corners.

Corrugated, Pre-Print
Lexmark All-In-One with Fax Box
By: Packaging Corporation of America
To produce this large product, which required a 79" repeat on a 55" wide web, a Cerutti press printed six colors of solvent-based ink plus coating and a waterbased varnish on SBS. The judges praised the outstanding quality of the graphics, particularly the reversed and black type and the solid colors.

Flexible Packaging, Film/Film Lamination
Hershey's Bliss-Dark Chocolate Bliss
By: Bemis Flexible Packaging, Milprint Division
A Schiavi Patriot press printed eight colors of solvent-based ink with registered white, three-ply inline adhesive lamination, and solvent- and waterbased adhesives. The type was sharp, and the package graphics did a good job of distinguishing between dark and milk chocolate with high-quality halftones and well-executed vignettes.

Flexible Packaging, Film/Film Lamination
Nestlé Stouffers Skillets
By: Alcan Packaging
This package was the second winner in this category. A Rotomec 4000-2ES press printed six colors of Siegwerk-retort ink on a lamination consisting of polyester and metallized nylon. Process color combinations create the distinctive line colors. All of the type is clean and crisp, including copy reversed out of as many as four colors.
