Petainer has developed a more sustainable, returnable, beverage bottle. The new bottle contains more than 25% post-consumer recycled PET plastic but is as robust as a refillable bottle made entirely from virgin material.
The packaging supplier says that the returnable bottle fill a sustainable package need because they have a have a lower carbon footprint than one-way bottles that are thrown away after use. After it’s emptied, a returnable bottle is sent back to the beverage manufacturer for washing and refilling.
The greener bottle’s performance performs in distribution systems identically to a conventional refillable bottle. It gives the same number of ‘round trips’, has the same top-load strength, which allows it to be stacked in the same way as other refillable bottles, and provides the same level of retention of CO2 in carbonated soft drinks.
