CMM Announces the Expansion of Two Live Demo Areas for Flexible Packaging and Narrow- to Mid-Web Converting

Flexible Packaging Technology Center
Designed to showcase the latest advancements in flexible packaging printing and converting, the new Technology Center will feature actual jobs being produced several times a day during the four days of the show. New sponsors Comexi, Hudson Sharp, and AirTrim have joined Bobst/Schiavi and Profama as the major supporters of the new Flexible Packaging Technology Center at CMM International 2007, June 4-7, in Rosemont, IL.

Preliminary plans call for plastic bags to be produced using the following equipment:

  • A new Bobst/Schiavi 10-color C.I. EF 50 press
  • Comexi's 52" Nexus Solventless Laminator with Sleeve Option
  • Profama's new Pratica 1200 slitter/rewinder
  • Hudson Sharp's SR-2400 Split Roll Bag Machine
  • An AirTrim advanced pneumatic trim system

According to Jim Enos, CMM show director, additional machinery and materials sponsors will be announced soon: "The Flexible Packaging Technology Center will provide converters from around the world with a unique opportunity to see all the latest equipment in action while discussing various steps of the process with technical representatives from the leading suppliers. Each of the sponsors will also have their own individual booths on the show floor so attendees can discuss their specific needs with several suppliers in the Tech Center and then have more private conversations in the individual booths."

"This was an easy decision for us," says Peter Medlicott, president and COO of Comexi North America. "We have always had excellent traffic at CMM and our experience with the 2005 show went well beyond our expectations. We welcome the opportunity to demonstrate our equipment in this innovative way." Enos said several of the CMM Conference sessions will be designed to complement the technology being shown on the show floor. The idea is to provide classroom sessions on the theory of the technology and then see it in action at the Tech Center.

Converting Technology Center
Designed to help converters better understand how they can combine both narrow- and mid-web converting technologies, the new Technology Center will feature operating equipment from leading manufacturers producing various jobs during the entire four days of CMM International. Produced in conjunction with DiTrolio Flexographic Institute, select conference and training sessions combining the two types of printing will also be offered and press operator certification will also be available.

Anderson & Vreeland, Harper Corporation of America, Prime UV, RotoMetrics and Styers Equipment Company have joined seven other leading machinery and materials manufacturers to sponsor the new CMM Narrow- to Mid-Web Converting Technology Center.

Anderson & Vreeland will display its AV Orbital X water washout system and the Flexolaser Piccolino ablative laser. Used for making digital Toyobo Cosmolight plates, the laser will be a new innovation for many converters.

Harper will be unveiling its new, never-before-seen Harper XLT system. Combining the power of Harper's exclusive XLT engraving head, beam delivery system, and system analyzers to optimize cell profiles and further cauterize ceramic coatings, the Harper XLT system enhances line screen and print volume combinations.

Prime UV will be running a live demonstration of its new MiniScan 3C UV Processor curing system, which is installed after each of the 4-color units to cure UV flexo links on the Propheteer 1300 flexo press. RotoMetrics will be showcasing a selection of products from its full line of narrow to mid-web rotary tooling. The company offers CNC and EDM rotary cutting dies, magnetic cylinders, print cylinders, hot stamping and embossing cylinders, removable blade sheeters, and associated products.

Styers Equipment Company will demonstrate a CEI 16" servo-driven slitter rewinder with standard features of 40" unwind, large strobe light, razor and shear knife slitting, dual 24" reversing rewinds, web advance, taper tension on rewinds, and programmable soft start and acceleration/deceleration plus the additional options of EX style full color touch screen, roll lift, waste rewind, flag detection, slip differential rewind cores, lay-on rollers, and job memorization.

These five new sponsors will be joining seven other leading companies in converting at the Narrow- to Mid-Web Tech Center including: bielomatik jagenberg Inc., J&H Printing Solutions, Propheteer International, BST Pro Mark, Martin Automatic, DMS, and Alden & Ott Printing Ink.

A number of materials suppliers will also be sponsoring the Technology Center. These sponsors will include 3M, All Printing Resources, Contract Converting, DuPont, Flexografix Inc., Glenroy Inc., Green Bay Packaging, Kurz, Pitman, and Transilwrap Company Inc.
