HBA to Honor Top Executives, Technical Innovations, and Superior Package Design

The 2004 IPDA Grand Award was presented to the team behind the Urban Decay Hot Box Mini Makeup Kit (left to right): Amy Zunzunegui, Tim Thorpe, Nicolas Topiol, and the principal designer Wende Zomnir.

On Tuesday night, September 27th at the Sheraton Hotel & Towers in New York, more than 600 people will gather to honor peers who have made significant contributions to the cosmetic, personal care, and fragrance industries. The Fourth Annual HBA Industry Awards Dinner will honor three individuals and one R&D team for their work and inspiration in new product development, technical advancement, marketing, and packaging design. The dinner also honors innovative individuals and companies leading the way in improving health and beauty products, as well as the best in package design for the past year.

John Demsey, global brand president for Estée Lauder since January 2005, will be the first recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award in Marketing. One of the greatest success stories in the cosmetics industry, Mr. Demsey has an innate ability to firmly establish a brand's authority while continuing to respect its heritage. Alan J. Meyers, L'Oreal USA's senior vice president corporate scientific research and development, will receive the Lifetime Achievement in Product Development Award. He has more than 25 years of progressive R&D management experience in the cosmetic industry and since September 2000 has been responsible for R&D and consumer affairs for L'Oréal USA.

The Packaging Executive of the Year will be bestowed upon Lorraine Ahart, vice president package development at Victoria's Secret Beauty Company. Ms. Ahart is being recognized for her powerful contributions and innovative approach to cosmetics, fragrance, and personal care packaging and design. The product development team for Lancome's Resurface Peel will receive The New Product R&D Technical Team Award. HBA and Cosmetics & Toiletries magazine will introduce two International Technical Awards. "New Technology" will be given to a company that has developed a new ingredient based on strong science and outstanding application potential. The "Technology Introduction Award" will honor a new ingredient launch that used a broad variety of formats and mediums.

The dinner will conclude with the presentation of the Sixth Annual International Package Design Awards (IPDA). The presentation highlights the nominees in seven categories before bestowing top honors in each category. One package receives the Grand Prize Award out of all the entries, which were a record number from around the world this year.
