Foodservice & Packaging Institute 2002 Awards Competition The 2002 Foodservice & Packaging Institute awards competition was conducted April 26 during the association's Spring Board of Directors Meeting in La Quinta, Calif. Judges for the competition were Dr. Bruce Harte, director and professor at the School of Packaging at Michigan State University, and Dr. Robert F. Testin, professor and chair emeritus of the Department of Packaging Science at Clemson University. "The encouraging thing about our biannual competition for single-use foodservice packaging is that it proves that manufacturers are continuing to find ways to use technology and human creativity to produce packages that delight consumers in truly inventive ways," says John R. Burke, president of the Foodservice & Packaging Institute. "No doubt about it, every year that we have the competition, I look at the winners and can only come up with one word that describes the genius on display: 'Cool!' " The Foodservice & Packaging Institute, Inc., headquartered in Falls Church, Va., is the material-neutral trade association for manufacturers and suppliers of single-use packaging used in food-service applications.
