“Art of
Packaging” Award
Is Presented to Estée Lauder
By Pratt, Luxe Pack Monaco
The Estée Lauder brand and Patrick Bousquet-Chavanne, group
president of The Estée Lauder Companies Inc., were honored
in mid-March with the 2004 Art of Packaging Award sponsored by
the Pratt Institute and Luxe Pack Monaco.
The award was presented during an annual dinner at New York City’s University
Club. The black-tie gala drew close to 400 people and raised nearly $300,000
for the Marc Rosen Scholarship for Graduate Packaging Design at Pratt, which
celebrated its 15th anniversary. Scholarships are awarded to students who attend
the world’s only graduate program in perfume bottle design, taught by
Marc Rosen.
WNBC-TV news anchor Felicia Taylor served as the evening’s MC. During
the presentation, Fred H. Langhammer, president and chief executive of The
Estée Lauder Companies Inc. introduced surprise guest, French chanteuse
Liliane Montevecchi. Bousquet-Chavanne received the award from Pratt Institute
president Thomas Schutte and Luxe Pack president Pierre-Yves Maisonneuve.
Previous winners of the Art of Packaging Award include Coty Inc.,
Ralph Lauren Fragrances, Calvin Klein, Lancôme, Avon, and Intercosmetics.
Rosen introduced scholarship winners Cate Bennett, Seong Min Kim, Janice
Lee, Monic Park, and Jimena Sanclemente, whose bottle and packaging designs
were on display. Pratt founded the Marc Rosen Scholarship for Graduate Design
in 1989. Many of the program’s graduates have gone on to illustrious careers
in bottle and packaging design for the fragrance and cosmetics industry.
Luxe Pack Monaco, the professional trade show for luxury goods
packaging in the fields of fragrances and cosmetics, jewelry, food,
wines and spirits, tobacco and tabletop, will hold its 17th edition
at the Grimaldi Forum in the Principality of Monaco from October
20 to 23.
