Time to Celebrate
Welcome to the 2004 keepsake edition of Package Design Magazine and the Showcase of Packaging Innovations, the annual celebration of packaging excellence. We are excited to bring you "The Best of the Best" in packaging from across the country and across the globe. This special edition is a companion piece to the Showcase of Packaging Innovations at Pack Expo, where these award-winners are being displayed November 7-11 at McCormick Place in Chicago. Package Design Magazine would like to thank PMMI for the opportunity to cover this extraordinary endeavor. Inside the pages of this issue, you'll find packages deemed exceptional for their surprising colors, shapes, sizes, and materials. You'll also find technology innovations that increase the functionality, convenience, safety, durability, marketability, and just plain enjoyment of products in every category. The 12 awards programs represented here span across a wide spectrum of design traditions, new directions, manufacturing solutions, printing advances, and packaging structure research. This issue is the culmination of many months of effort from dedicated packaging professionals, their representative organizations, and the industry leaders who spearhead these competitions and judge the winning packages. As the packaging community gathers at Pack Expo International 2004, we hope that capturing these award winners here will provide a yearlong celebration of the best of the best, and we hope that this keepsake will inspire and motivate package designers to achieve new creative heights.
