Crown and SICO Introduce Easy-To-Grip Aerosol Can

Crown Aerosols Europe has designed an innovative, easy-togrip shaped aerosol package in cooperation with SICO, a French company specializing in the formulation and filling of aerosol products. The unique container launches a reformulated version of SICO’s King tire repair and inflator.

SICO designed the exterior of the can, which features a graphic resembling tire treads that encircles the entire top and base of the container, clearly communicating the purpose of the product to consumers. In addition, an image of a tire pressure gauge is embossed onto the front of the package, creating a striking asymmetrical shape.

Complementing the ergonomic design is SICO’s patented new injection system, offering significant improvements over alternative outside flexible nozzles. This high-impact package is made using Crown’s proprietary blowforming process, which maximizes container integrity and product protection by preventing damage to internal coatings. A Can Top Offers Ads… And a Hygienic Surface

Advercan, a new can-top label for soda, power drink, and beer cans, introduces the world's first can top media campaign capability. The product is a fivelayer plastic label that adheres to the top of typical beverage cans, and was used on cans of Coca-Cola for a pilot program at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The Advercan label serves as both an advertising medium and a Cleancap™, designed to keep the can top clean from the bottling plant to the store shelf. The protective seal can thwart the spread of dirt, germs, and other contaminants. With the ability to print a message on both sides of the label, marketers can create a variety of marketing strategies with this unique new media. Advercan has earned several copyrights, has five patents pending, and registered more than 20 trademarks. Visit www.advercan.com.

Iggesund Paperboard’s Invercote Duo Prints Brilliantly on Stiff Board

Gucci’s Eau de Parfum II uses a modified Invercote Duo product, with the elegant printing sides glued to each other and the considerably rougher reverse sides exposed.

Invercote Duo is stiffer than its relatives in the same product family and also has equal-sided triple coating on both the printing side and the reverse. The secret is that Invercote Duo is a laminate; that is, two paperboard sheets whose reverse sides have been glued together.

Guy Mallinson, business director of packaging at Iggesund Paperboard, explains the luxury goods applications: “It’s fairly common to have heavy glass fragrance bottles which must have good protection, whilst at the same time it’s not possible to make the slightest compromise on the printing properties.”

Invercote Duo has a close relative— Incada Duo, which is being used for wine and spirits presentation boxes. Incada Duo a laminate of Iggesund’s folding Incada box board.

Perdue Farms Uses Zip-Pak’s New Zippers for Short Cuts®

Perdue Farms has enhanced the packaging for Perdue® Short Cuts® fully cooked carved chicken and turkey strips by incorporating a new zipper from Zip-Pak, the world leader of resealable packaging solutions. Zip-Pak’s 600 series zippers enhance convenience, improve overall package appearance, and perform to the highest packaging standards.

The zipper, part of Zip-Pak’s new easier-to-seal 600 Series, improves overall aesthetics of the package. Because less temperature and pressure are required to incorporate the zipper into the package, the ends appear less “crushed” or wrinkled when sealed by VFFS machinery. The new package design also does away with the fin seal on the back, creating a very clean and modern look.

Using a proprietary resin blend and new film coatings, the new zipper can be adhered to packaging film at temperatures up to 20° F lower than required for traditional zippered packaging. Zip-Pak’s R&D department developed the 600 Series zippers to be versatile without compromising adequate bond strengths or efficient line speeds. Visit www.zippak.com.

The Superfos Alternative to Glass Earns WorldStar Award

The newly launched Superfos packaging solution, SuperLock, has received a WorldStar Award for a unique design solution that competes directly with glass packaging. SuperLock is shaped by the philosophy of Danish design that optimizes functionality and aesthetics.

SuperLock is a glass alternative for food products such as marmalades and pickled greens, sauces and mints, and for non-food products such as toiletries and paints. Distinct to the new SuperLock is the lock mechanism based on an easy open and close liquid tight twist system that guarantees high product safety and quality.

By twisting the lid only 60°, the sealing ring comes off and lets out an airtight sound as the tamper evident band is broken. Furthermore, when the pot is correctly re-closed an audible click provides an emotional guarantee of efficient re-closure. Finally, the SuperLock packaging offers transparency at the level of glass and allows for sharp graphics of high quality. Visit www.superfos.com.
