Award-Winning Packages
Take Center Stage at Pack Expo 2006

Package designers seeking inspiration for their next breakthrough packaging idea should be sure to visit The Showcase of Packaging Innovations™, a special pavilion at Pack Expo International 2006 highlighting the year's most innovative package designs from around the world. Sponsored and produced by the Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute (PMMI), Pack Expo International 2006 will be held October 29 to November 2 at Chicago's McCormick Place.

All of the packages featured in The Showcase of Packaging Innovations™ have been recognized for outstanding design by prominent international organizations. "Savvy marketers are leveraging innovative packaging designs that are highly focused and meet the specific needs of the target audience to communicate positively to the consumer and have a strong impact at point-of-sale," says Charles D. Yuska, president of PMMI. "Pack Expo International is the only place consumer goods companies can be exposed to the complete spectrum of global packaging innovations and concepts to increase retail sales, grow brand loyalty, and build greater market share."

While visiting The Showcase of Packaging Innovations, attendees will be invited to participate in a new awards program being unveiled at this year's show—Pack Expo Selects. All packages featured in the Pack Expo Selects display will be designs commercialized, developed and produced by one or more Pack Expo exhibitors. Credit will be given to those companies who participated in the package's development, design, converting, or production.

During the show, Pack Expo attendees will be able to vote for the package they deem most innovative via their MyPackExpo™ portal, which will be accessible at multiple kiosks around McCormick Place.

Keynoters added to docket

PMMI announced that Matt Kistler, vice president, package and product innovations, Wal-Mart Stores Inc., and Amy Zettlemoyer, director of packaging, Sam's Club, will deliver a timely keynote address at the Conference at Pack Expo. In a presentation titled "The Wal-Mart/Sam's Club Packaging Vision," Kistler and Zettlemoyer will discuss the underlying principles Wal-Mart uses to stay abreast of consumer and environmental trends, as well as insights into packaging innovations. The presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, November 1 at 10:30 a.m.

The kickoff keynote address will be on Monday, October 30, at 10:30 a.m. and is entitled "Packaging: A Change Agent in Change." The speaker will be Harris E. DeLoach Jr., chairman, president and chief executive officer of Sonoco Products Company. In this presentation, DeLoach will make the case that the packaging industry must transform itself from being viewed simply as suppliers into partners capable of meeting rapidly changing customer demands.

Dennis McGrew, president and chief executive officer of NatureWorks LLC, will start the day on Tuesday, October 31, at 8:30 a.m. with a keynote presentation titled "Creating a Sustainable Future: Growing the Bio-Resin Market in a Greening Economy." This session will highlight what it takes to bring a bio-resin to market, from engaging brand owners and retailers to the required technical expertise in understanding fit-for-use applications of a new material to understanding the partnerships needed with key stakeholders.
