The unique combination of pearlescent and metallic inks with optical brighteners produced the desired crisp, clean, and well-defined results.
Best of Show (Category: Sleeve or Tube, Reverse-Printed) Neilson Dairy, The Ultimate Chocolate Milk By: ALCOA Seven colors reverse-printed on a 50 micron PVC substrate using Sun Chemical Ink System on a Rotomec press. The halftones are extremely well-produced and the vignettes are good and clean. The black type is excellent, and the reversed out type open and clear.
Flexible Paper/Film Lamination Community Coffee Holiday Pack By: Printpack Inc. Eight colors printed on a paper PET film lamination using Flint Ink on a Schiavi press. Keeping two clean background screen values with metallic ink is difficult, but the images and type are clean and clear. The solid red and the gold—although not easy to print—is well done.
Flexible Film/Film Lamination Kellogg's Shrek Cookie Bag By: ALCAN Packaging Eight colors (four process and four in-line) reverse-printed on a lamination consisting of 48 ga PET/ink/ LDPE/Metallized PET/LDPE Sealant Film using Lamiall inks by INX on a Rotomec Rotopak 3000-2 press. The dramatic use of color and printing on a metallized film add to the eye appeal.
Sleeve or Tube, Heat Shrinkable More Than 13% Corby's Alegria By: Gilbreth Seven colors printed on PETG with solvent based inks on a Tecmo press. A dramatic sample with contrasting orange, gold, and black images and nice halftones. The combination the metallic gold, bright colors, and smooth lay result in an attractive "pop off of the shelf" label.
Sleeve or Tube, Surface-Printed Bolthouse Farms Fruit Smoothie By: SleeveCo Inc. Eight colors surface matte-printed on PETG with a reversed out area over the reverse-printed process area using Sun Chemical Inks on a Chesnut press. The black type is very legible and clean and the selected area varnish for improved COF registers well with the vignettes.

This bold label utilizes three different blacks and silver with multiple vignettes, and the small type on the back label is clear and legible.
International Premade Pouches Tesco Finest Stock By: CLP Packaging Solutions Inc., Israel Eight color printed on a four-ply lamination consisting of HBPET/PET12/15Bonyl/CPP80 films, using Poly-Vinyl ink for retort and produced on a Cerutti press. The large halftone areas are nice and even and the pastoral scenes reflect the tranquil image desired.

The registration is very good, the colors well-laid and brilliant, the type is clean, the solids are good, and the die-cutting is precise.
Glue Applied Label Arizona Pomegranate Green Tea By: Inland Label & Marketing Services Seven colors (four process colors and two PMS) plus topcoat printed on 84-gsm-metallized paper using water based inks on a Schiavi press. There is a very smooth vignette from purple to green, and the pomegranates look real.
International Special Effects or Novelty Wrigley's Extra Peach By: ALCAN Packaging, Montreal, Canada Seven colors plus varnish printed on SBS paperboard on a Bobst press using Flint Ink. Two different colors of orange and one yellow were required to achieve the special look for this new flavor. The vignettes are excellent and the black fine type is crisp, clean, and well-printed.

This is a very busy sample incorporates all process colors for the corporate graphics as well as the multitude of government mandated health warnings.

The sample conjures up the image of freshness with the water splash. The reversed type is clean and crisp and the normal type is good for an excellent presentation.

The required health warnings using special colors are very graphic. There is precise detail throughout, topped off by a hand-designed embossing pattern.
Specialty, Special Effects/Novelty Wrigley's Eclipse Polar Ice By: ALCAN Packaging Four colors plus varnish printed on International Paper 12 point CIS board using Sun Chemical Inks on a Bobst press. A very good carton package that uses the white of the board for the white and an extremely good lay on the silver.
Non-PSA Labels or Wraps, Paper Top Coated Shiner Bock Beer By: Inland Label & Marketing Service Six colors plus topcoat printed on 6 SG FWS label paper using water based inks on a Schiavi press. A simple label well-produced the fine pattern and detail in the background of the rams head adds to the effect. The type is clear and it is a clean, nice label.
Innovations, Process Carreras By: ALCAN Packaging Nine colors and varnish printed on SBS paperboard using Flint ink on a Bobst press. This flip-top-box is a fine example of tobacco carton printing, the gold lay and fine black type are outstanding. The intricate die-cutting and embossing pattern is very good and well-executed.
Technical Achievement, Specialty Inks Wrigley's Extra Bubble Gum By: ALCAN Packaging Six colors plus varnish printed on SBS paperboard using Flint Ink on a Bobst press created a unique and well-executed package. Two different colors of florescent ink were used to achieve the desired look when viewed under black light. The lay of colors is excellent, as is the register.
Paperboard Cartons, Top Coated Wrigley's Eclipse Fusion By: ALCAN Packaging Eight colors plus varnish printed on SBS paperboard using Flint inks on a Bobst press. The judges commented that this was a well-produced carton with a nice range of halftone dots. The background detail is excellent and the fruit and mint leaf have a crisp look.
Non-PSA Labels or Wraps, Glue Applied Label Bohemia Especial Beer Label By: Editorial Padilla, Dominican Republic Six colors and varnish surface printed on 66 gsm metalized paper, printed with ink and varnish by Sun Chemical on a Chesnut 180 press. The black type and registration are good, and contrasting gold with red and green makes a very neat label, and the embossing is clean and crisp.

Foods Eggnog Milk Shake By: Fort Dearborn Company Nine colors plus thermally activated heat seal printed on freezer grade PET, and printed using Coates Inks on a Rotomec press. This is a well printed job with strong colors and realistic process print in the ice cream. The metallic ink simulates the metal cup well, and the silver contrasts nicely with the red and blue.

The judges noted the tight registration held on all colors. The multiple vignettes and subtle tones make this label for an every day household product worthy of an award.

The registration is outstanding, and the depth of color in the black, gold, and silver colors is good.
