Sun Chemical's WetFlex Printing System Wins Environmental Innovation Award

Sun Chemical's WetFlex™ system and UniQure™ inks have been recognized for their low environmental impact at the Flexotech International Print and Innovation Awards in November in London. The Award for Innovation – Environmental went to WetFlex and Sun Chemical, the world's largest producer of printing inks and pigments, for representing the latest technology in environmentally friendly print solutions.
The WetFlex technology delivers wet-on-wet flexographic printing designed to meet the needs of the flexible packaging market for improved print quality, efficiency, and low environmental impact. WetFlex uses UniQure inks, a new generation of energy curable ink technology specially developed for the process. UniQure inks contain no alcohols, organic solvents, or VOCs.
Ink trapping is achieved without inter-station drying, so no solvent recovery system or incineration is necessary when using the inks in normal printing operations. Also, no VOC is released during printing, no carbon dioxide is emitted when using this system, and the technology has low energy requirements.
At Graph Expo 2007, Sun Chemical's "Club Oasis" showcased cost-efficient solutions with improved environmental performance. Visitors learned about the Synergy ™ UV system that simplifies UV printing and reduces waste, about the Rycoline® portfolio of green products that reduce VOCs in the commercial printing process, and about Kohl & Madden Liberty™ sheetfed inks, an environmentally friendly ink technology producing high-quality results while reducing waste and shortening printer production times.
