On May 14, in Wilmington, Del., IPL received the Diamond Award for packaging innovation from DuPont for its SkinnyPack technology used by Ana’s Foods.
In November 2014, IPL announced the market launch of its first SkinnyPack container in collaboration with the Texas based company Ana’s Foods. Searching for new packaging for its salsa, which was sold in a 12 oz. rigid container, CEO of Ana's Foods, Anna Olvera-Ullrich, immediately saw the potential of the SkinnyPack technology to attract customers and seized the opportunity to become its first user. Standing out on store shelves, the package was recommended for the twenty-seventh edition of the DuPont Packaging Innovation Award.
The SkinnyPack is a hybrid packaging technology — both thin and robust — which marries a flexible IML label to a strong injection molded structure. It is a mono-material solution, environmentally responsible (100 percent recyclable), and uses up to 60 percent less plastic than comparable rigid formats. SkinnyPack offers numerous designs and formats that adapt to existing filling manufacturing equipment while offering high-resolution graphic and transparency of IML labels.
On May 14, the SkinnyPack container of Ana’s Salsa was selected as the winner among 140 participants from more than 25 countries, all competing for the prestigious DuPont Packaging Innovation Award. This world-renowned contest, established in 1986 and judged independently, honors innovations in packaging design, materials, technology and processes across the entire packaging value chain. The winner of the Diamond Award received first place in three categories: technological advancement, responsible packaging and enhanced user experience.
This honor is the second earned by the SkinnyPack technology in less than a year. IPL also won the prize of best packaging prototype, which was awarded by the In-Mold Decorating Association (IMDA) in 2014. IMDA is an organization of molders, printers, material suppliers and equipment manufacturers committed to the development and growth of in-mold decorating products, technologies and markets.
