Can a sneaker provide inspiration for the next award-winning food package design? Can a material protect a delicate product even after it’s been hurled from a 15-story building? That’s the type of discussion that Material ConneXion will generate with its interactive materials display in the Brand Zone at PACK EXPO International 2012 (October 28-31; McCormick Place, Chicago, IL). Material ConneXion’s booth will be located within The Showcase of Packaging Innovations.
Attendees will be able to handle a carefully-selected sampling of the more than 6,500 advanced and sustainable materials from the company’s global Materials Libraries. Experts will be on hand to educate attendees about the properties of the different materials, many of which will come from outside of the packaging space, and their cross-over potential.
“Successful packaging depends on the ability to innovate, and often, that means looking to other industries for inspiration,” says Charles D. Yuska, president and CEO of PMMI, owner and producer of the PACK EXPO shows. “In partnering with Material ConneXion,, PMMI and PACK EXPO are encouraging brand owners and designers to challenge the way they approach packaging design, and to discover ways the newest materials being used in textile, interior or even transportation applications might be applied to packaging.”
Each day, Material ConneXion will also present a series of live demonstrations in the display area. Presentation topics and a formal schedule will be announced shortly.
“Our primary goal is to serve as a catalyst for design innovation,” explains Michele Caniato, President of Material ConneXion. “We accomplish that by being a conduit to educate designers and brand owners about what’s happening in the world of materials across disciplines and industries. We’re looking forward to bringing that discussion to PACK EXPO and showing attendees how many opportunities are out there that can serve as the foundation for tomorrow’s packaging innovation.”
The Material ConneXion display can be found in The Brand Zone, within The Showcase of Packaging Innovations®, sponsored by The Dow Chemical Company. Both features support The Brand Zone’s mission of connecting attendees with advanced materials and containers that can drive brand loyalty and engagement and increase market share. “Packaging is the first touch point a brand has with consumers,” adds Yuska. “Brand owners need to constantly strategize and redesign their tactics to develop the best ways, at any given time, to make their products stand out on store shelves and make this first interaction with consumers a positive one. The Brand Zone at PACK EXPO will be an ideal place for brand owners to discover innovative concepts that will give them a competitive edge.”
